Today’s challenge for #BHBSpooktober was skeletons/ghosts. I ended up settling on skulls, but it took a long time to get here:
And I’m still not super happy with it. I had bigger visions of flames and skulls, but I just couldn’t get it to work. I started with a gray based and tried a few versions with that, but there was not enough contrast. Hubs suggested going with a black background, but I ended up going white.
So, here’s what I used:
From left to right: Essie Grow Stronger, Poshe quick dry, Moyou Punk plate, Messy Mansion marshmallow stamper, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls, Mundo de Unas Reddish, Moyou London Fairytale plate, Konad black, HK Girl.
I started out with a base of My Boyfriend Scales Walls (one of my favorites!):
This is two coats with a coat of Poshe on top. I love this color as a base. It is not a straight white. It has some gray undertones to it. I love using it as opposed to a pure white base, because I think it can make manis more interesting.
Once that was all dry, I started stamping with MdU Reddish and Konad black.
I had visions of flames leaping from and around the skull, but no matter how I placed the flames, it did not look quite right. I redid my ring finger a number of times before I was at least partially satisfied with it. Here’s how it turned out once I added the skull:

Cool, but not nearly as badass as it could be. I have been reworking it in my head, and will probably revisit this mani before long.
I usually don’t rock the skull and skeleton manis to work, but this one will be debuting tomorrow. Should be interesting to see what my employees think…
Thanks for stopping by!
